A building past saving gets in the way of everything else on the place. Precision Excavation works as a demolition contractor for small structures across North Alabama. Most small demolition here is residential: old farm houses, rental houses past fixing and barns that gave out years ago. We work these buildings down with the trackhoe instead of knocking them flat. That keeps the pile tight and the debris out of the fence line.
Mobile home removal runs the same way. The trackhoe opens the home up, the frame and the metal come out, and the rest loads into the trucks. Power, water and sewer or septic have to be cut off at the source first.
Concrete comes out too. Slabs, block foundations, porch steps and cracked driveway aprons break up under the trackhoe and load into the trucks. If the ground around the building is grown up, clearing the lot can run with the tear down.
We come look at the building first and price the job from what is there. The estimate is free. Access counts as much as size. The trackhoe and the dump trucks need room to get close to the building and turn around.
Before the date is set, the power, water and gas have to be cut off at the source. That is a call to the utility company, and the property owner is the one who makes it. Inside city limits a permit usually comes into it. The City of Decatur issues permits for demolition of structures through its building department.
Other towns and the county run their own rules, so check what yours wants before we roll in. When the day comes, the trackhoe works the building down and loads the trucks as it goes. Old buried lines mean a call to Alabama 811 before we dig, like any job that breaks ground. The last pass is filling the hole and blading the ground level.
The tear down is the short part of a demolition job. Hauling is what takes the time. A house makes more debris than most people expect, and it leaves load by load in the dump trucks. Loading straight from the pile with the trackhoe keeps the trucks moving and the mess in one spot.
Concrete slab removal is a job on its own. Slabs, footings and old driveway aprons get broken up and lifted out with the trackhoe. The dirt under an old slab is usually soft or full of fill. It has to be cut to firm ground and built back in lifts if anything new goes on that spot.
We leave the site level with the debris gone and the ruts bladed out. If the drive took a beating from the trucks, we can put the driveway back in shape before we leave. Fill dirt and gravel for the spot come in on the same trucks that carried the debris out.
